Pre-Interview

Research Company and Interviewers

  • Research online for a company's webpage. A company’s webpage usually contains contact information, positions, missions, insights and more.
  • Request for more information or any materials from the employer, such as job descriptions and annual reports.
  • If available, schedule an informational interview. This will help you explore the company’s culture and environment in person.
  • If you know the interviewer’s name, try and do some background research. It is always good to know who you are talking to.
  • Ask colleagues, career peer advisors, friends, or even faculty if they know anything about the company. Maybe they have personal contacts working within the company.

Knowing about the job will help you prepare a list of qualifications that pertain to the position you are applying for. Background knowledge about the company will also help you prepare for an interview because you will be able to point by point explain why you are the best candidate!

Schedule a Practice Interview

  • Mock interviews are a great way to gain valuable feedback on how you can improve your techniques and skills before going through a real interview.  You can schedule a mock interview with any Career & Professional Advancement staff member.
