Pre-Med and Pre-Health Pathways
Pre‑med and pre‑health pathways at UC Merced are designed to give students a strong scientific foundation while helping them explore the many careers available in healthcare. Although UC Merced provides structured advising, recommended coursework, and experiential opportunities that prepare students for medical, dental, pharmacy, veterinary, nursing, and allied health programs. Students typically major in fields like Biological Sciences, Human Biology, Chemistry, or Public Health, but advisors help them tailor their academic plans to meet professional school prerequisites.
Medical Education at UC Merced
We are thrilled that medical training is launching at UC Merced! Since the program’s launch in Fall 2023, we have welcomed two classes into the San Joaquin Valley PRIME+ BS to MD program. Students in the program will complete their Bachelor of Science (BS) at UC Merced over four years, and then complete their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree at UC Merced and UCSF-Fresno over four years. UC Merced is accredited by the Licensing Committee on Medical Education to deliver medical education as a branch campus of the UCSF School of Medicine. UC Merced is committed to training diverse future health professionals prepared to serve their communities and promote health in the San Joaquin Valley.
