Introducing Job Search Resources for SSHA Majors
Students in UC Merced’s School of Social Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (SSHA) have access to a wide range of job search resources designed to help them translate their academic experiences into meaningful career opportunities. Because SSHA fields are diverse—spanning psychology, sociology, history, political science, English, global arts studies, and more—the job search process often begins with understanding how your skills apply across industries. UC Merced’s career resources make that exploration easier and more intentional.
The Student Career offers tailored advising to help SSHA students identify strengths such as communication, research, cultural awareness, critical thinking, and problem‑solving—skills that employers consistently value. Advisors can guide you in crafting résumés and cover letters that highlight these competencies, preparing for interviews, and developing a job search strategy that aligns with your interests.
In addition, UC Merced provides access to Handshake, where you can find internships, part‑time roles, and full‑time positions specifically targeted to UC students. Workshops, employer panels, and career fairs introduce you to professionals in fields like education, public service, nonprofits, media, law, and community development. These experiences not only expand your network but also help you understand the wide range of career paths available to SSHA graduates.
